Apple Foundation Program @UTS - Design Mentor

Application Process

Graduating the Program

Becoming an Alumni

Following my successful completion of the Apple Foundation Program @UTS as a student, I joined the Alumni community as a graduate.

Application

Value Proposition

Upon graduating, I had expressed my interest in returning for future high school and university cohorts as a design mentor. This required me to submit a value proposition, including in it what I would be able to bring to the program as a potential design mentor.

Becoming a Design Mentor

Continuous Learning and Training

Since then, I have been one of the design mentors of the program, having been selected as the sole graduate of my cohort to achieve this.

I remain among a small portion of graduates who have achieved this transition, especially those in design.

The Value Proposition

I had taken an active role in supporting members of my team and cohort despite still only being a student at the time. Whether this required taking on additional responsibilities, multitasking, or dedication to see tasks through to completion, I planned and structured my time to allow for this, whilst still finishing the program as a student as intended.

This demonstrated my attitude in group environments and my intention to help everyone succeed, which are highly valuable qualities and traits for a mentor to have.

These were the characteristics and actions I highlighted as part of my application and value proposition.

This was particularly the case in supporting a group member who had missed a portion of the learning during the program, and ensuring they were kept in the loop and could still contribute.

Becoming an Alumni Board Mentor

At the time of expressing my interest in becoming a future design mentor, I had also expressed my interest in becoming a member of the Alumni Board, planning future alumni events for graduates of the high school and university cohorts of the Apple Foundation Program.

This required me to demonstrate consistency and dedication, which I had previously done so as a student during the program, as mentioned above. However, to be accepted into this role, I had to take it one step further, even showing this consistency, dedication and abillity to work effectively in a team, which I demonstrated during my time as one of the design mentors.

As a result, my expression of interest and application to join the Alumni Board, was expected before I had even completed my first cohort as a design mentor, due to the high standard and attitude that I acted with and held myself to.

Like with becoming a design mentor, I was the sole selected graduate of my cohort to become an Alumni Board member.
